Learn to Paddle in Cape Breton

The ADCKC takes Cape Breton Island! 🛶

Staff and volunteers organized and executed “try-it” sessions Monday - Wednesday, July 11 - 13, for children in communities that have rarely experienced canoe/kayak in a sprint capacity.

The Learn to Paddle program arranged several hour and a half long sessions for up to 10 athletes. Athletes were given the chance to try new boats, develop new skills, and compete with friends in Mira River, Eskasoni First Nation, and Whycocomagh.

These programs have been conducted in Cape Breton since 2018 in an effort to foster an inclusive and diverse environment in canoe/kayak. The ADCKC will continue these initiatives as an ongoing effort to make the sport of canoe/kayak inclusive and accessible to all athletes in Atlantic Canada.
